Police say text message for Amber Alert a prank

ODESSA -- The Odessa Emergency Communications received a number of calls from concerned residents Monday inquiring about an Amber Alert that was being forwarded around via cell phones and text messaging.
The message, which read: "AMBER ALERT! 2 little girls kidnapped around noon in Odessa. Suspect is driving brown Jeep Liberty. License plate # is 43-6519. PLEASE FORWARD," is apparently a prank, said officials late Monday.
The Odessa Police Department reported no kidnappings and did not issue an Amber Alert.
A press release from the OPD also stated authorities with the Midland Police Department and the Ector County Sheriff's Office also confirmed they did not issue an Amber Alert either.
