Desert Thunder Raceway

Midland's G.W. Davidson topped the electronics division during Saturday night's bracket racing event at Desert Thunder Raceway. Davidson covered the eighth-mile drag strip in 5.75 seconds for a top speed of 119 mph. Davidson defeated Midland's Fred Rojas, who posted a 6.85.

Odessa's Chris Hanson won the foot brake class, defeating Midland's June Gibson.

Friday night was a battle for the 50-and over set as Midland's Willy Linsicombe beat Odessa's Jerry McGee in the 50-and-over final. Linsicombe posted a 7.71, 87 mph, while McGee finished at 7.34, 90 mph.

Midland's Kris Johnson won the Under-50 class.

Under 50 class: Kris Johnson, Midland 5.75 seconds, 119 mph def. June Gibson, Midland 7.69, 89 mph.

50-&-Older class: Willy Linsicombe, Midland 7.71, 87 mph def. Jerry McGee, Odessa 7.34, 90 mph.

Saturday's results

Electronics: G.W. Davidson, Midland 5.75. 119 mph def. Fred Riojas, Midland 6.85, 100 mph.

Foot brake: Chris Hanson, Odessa 7.24, 89 mph def. June Gibson, Midland 7.57, 89 mph.

This weekend: Friday, Test & Tune, gates open at 8 p.m.; Saturday, "Time Warp" exhibition, bracket blower and IHRA Summit SuperSeries, gates open at 7 p.m.

Champion Motor Speedway


ODESSA -- Champion Motor Speedway will resume racing action this weekend after taking this past weekend off. Saturday night's program will feature Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA SportMods, Street Stocks, IMCA Hobby Stocks and Stock-4s.

Midland's Richard Myers will be going for his second consecutive Sprint Car checkered flag.
