Texas Rangers third baseman Hank Blalock was a late scratch from a rehab start for the Frisco RoughRiders on Thursday night at Citibank Ballpark.
Blalock, who went on the disabled list April 25 with a partially torn hamstring, was scheduled to start at third base and hit second for the RoughRiders in the final game of a four-game series against the RockHounds.
Approximately 10 minutes before the game's 6:35 first pitch, the RoughRiders scratched Blalock from the lineup, saying "he's still hurt and isn't able to play."
Frisco is home against the San Antonio Missions today, and Blalock will be re-evaluated by the Texas Rangers' medical staff.
Blalock was replaced at third base by Emerson Frostad, who was scheduled to play first base, and in the lineup by Craig Gentry, who played center field and was originally scheduled to have the night off.
Blalock has fond memories of the RockHounds. Playing for Tulsa, then the Texas Rangers' Double-A affiliate, Blalock hit for the cycle against the RockHounds on June 26, 2001.
Two days later, he did it again, this time hitting a game-winning homer to complete his cycle.
"That was a great time," Blalock said. "That was one of the highlights of my baseball career, whether it's minor league or major league, to be able to do that. We had a lot of fun on that team."
One of Blalock's teammates that year was Mark Teixiera, now the first baseman for the Atlanta Braves.
