Midland/Odessa Christian Women's Connection is to meet 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ranchland Hills Golf Club. There will be a presentation on quilting. Cost of the luncheon is $14, payable at the door. Midland and Lee high schools' classes of 1988 are planning its 20th reunion Sept. 5-6. Scheduled events include the Midland High vs.Lee High football game Sept. 5 and a dinner Sept. 6 at Midland Center. Haley Library is hosting Mike Cox and Mary Lou Midkiff for book signings 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Cox, a former spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, is the author of "The Texas Rangers: Wearing the Cinco Peso 1821-1900." He also will be giving a brief talk on his study of the Texas Rangers. Midkiff has chronicled the story of the Midkiff family's matriarch in "Lillie Davenport: Pioneer Mother." The 12th annual Trio of Gardens, presented by Southtex Renewables and Keep Midland Beautiful, is planned for 1-4 p.m. Sept. 21. The featured gardens are those of Charlsa and Doug Hillman, 6800 Executive Court; Shea and Carl Showers, 2515 Sinclair; and Shannon Klunick, 906 Princeton St. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 the day of the event. Tickets are available at Alldredge Gardens, Gardenview, H-E-B, Ivy Cottage, La Casa Verde, Mannings, Susie's South Forty, Dayley Landscape Center, from KMB board members or by calling the KMB office at 687-7400. Those who buy tickets are eligible to win a $500 gift certificate to a local nursery.

Midland Need to Read is planning tutor training for 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 12 and Aug. 14 at the Advanced Technology Center, 3200 W. Cuthbert Ave. For more information or to register, call Patti Groce at 682-9693.
