City sales tax streak hits 61

The Midland economy is still churning as the city reported another positive return on its monthly sales tax collection .

The Midland economy is still churning as the city reported another positive return on its sales tax collection (when compared to the same month during the previous year).

In October

October 2008: $2,230,364

October 2007: $1,987,737

Percent increase: 13.33


Year-to-date

Fiscal year-to-date: $2,230,364

Percent increase from last year: 13.33

Note: October marks the beginning of FY 2008-09. Sales tax revenues for 2007-08 reached an all-time high of $24.94 million.

Midland’s top-five collections

August 2008: $2,703,813

February 2008: $2,473,870

February 2007: $2,429,077

May 2008: $2,389,339

May 2007: $2,281,055


Amount dedicated in October to pay off sports complex and fund the Midland Development Corp.: $515,627
