ANDREWS COUNTY -- Authorities said alcohol was a factor in a Sunday motorcycle accident that killed a 50-year-old man three miles southeast of Andrews.

Robert Owen Cook of Andrews was found on the ground near a 2007 Yamaha motorcycle at the intersection of SE 2001 and SE 3000 around 4:49 p.m., officials said.

Emergency responders rendered aid at the scene and then transported Cook to Permian Regional Medical Center in Andrews where he was pronounced dead by Andrew County Justice of the Peace Neri Flores.

Department of Public Safety troopers said Cook was headed west on SE 3000 when he failed to navigate the curve onto SE 2001 due to excessive speed.

Cook was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, authorities said.
