Event to honor St. Mark's members who founded Casa de Amigos

In 1964 a small group of Midlanders from St. Mark’s United Methodist Church sought out to improve the lives of those less fortunate in their community. Their vision included educational resources and social programs for lower-income Midlanders on the east side of town. By holding weekly garage sales of items donated by church members, they were able to rent a former grocery store building at 906 N. Dallas St. for $50 a month. Seeking out the time and talent of other local congregations, the group offered English classes, preschool activities, sewing and cooking classes, family planning and social groups for children, teens and adults.
